Background :

This twinning agreement BG2000/IB/EN/01-A was led by France, who was in charge of the component on bathing waters, fish and oyster farming and dangerous substances, with Germany in charge of the component on drinking water supply.

 

Services :

The two sub-projects were structured in six phases :

Phase 1 : Inventory of the drinking water supply systems and the methods of billing water to the consumers, on the one hand, and on the other of the water classes and pilot areas for fresh and marine waters.

Phase 2 : Assessment of the differences between the current situation in Bulgaria and the European standards.

Phase 3 : Identification of the legislative, technical and financial needs and of the investments required to improve the national systems.

Phase 4 : Definition of adequate systems for monitoring water quality in relation with standards and good practices.

Phase 5 : Preparation of programmes for complying with the requirements of the European Union.

Phase 6 : Training and awareness raising of the public.
