ONEP and IOWater : a lasting collaboration

ONEP and IOWater : a lasting collaboration
Started 5 years ago, the collaboration between the Water and Sanitation Institute (WSI) of the National Office for Drinking Water Supply (ONEP) in Morocco and IOWater’s National Water Training Center (NWTC) continued in 2011.
Indeed, IOWater was awarded a contract, after an invitation to tender from ONEP-WSI, related to capacity building on sanitation with KFW funding :
* Completion of two training courses in Morocco (modeling of sewer systems and wastewater treatment plants, design and sizing of pumping stations) ;
* Facilitation of 3 workshops (cleaning of anaerobic lagoons, subcontracting at ONEP, management of a sanitation project).
ONEP’s "sanitation" responsibility is indeed recent and many trainees, who have a large experience in drinking water supply, have discovered the constraints specific to sanitation regarding pumping.
In 2011, ONEP-WSI also entrusted IOWater with some projects related to educational engineering regarding training units :
* Design and construction of a didactical sewer system ;
* Development of protocols for practical work on the training unit on the treatment of activated sludge in Bou Regreg.
