Published July 2017

Mr. Eric TARDIEU, 47 years old, Chief Engineer of Bridges, Water and Forestry, was appointed Director General of the International Office for Water - IOWater, Paris, on the 1st of July 2017.
A former student at the Polytechnic School (Ecole Polytechnique) and PhD in Process Engineering, Eric Tardieu started his professional activities at the Water Interservices Mission in the Cher (1997-2000), the Regional Directorate for Industry, Research and Environment in Lower Normandy (2000-2003) and the General Secretariat for Regional Affairs (SGAR) at the Prefecture of the Lower Normandy Region (2003-2004).
He was then appointed to the Lower Normandy Regional Council, as Director of Economics, Research, Europe and Tourism (2004-2007), then as Deputy Director General in charge of Regional Planning and the Environment (2007-2010), before joining the Urban Community of Toulouse Metropolis, as Deputy Director General in charge of economic development, employment and international affairs. In 2012, he created then headed the Metropolitan Agency of Economic Attractiveness "Invest in Toulouse".
Since 1st January 2016, Eric TARDIEU has been IOWater Executive Deputy Director General.
"Capacity building for better water management", is the task of the International Office for Water (IOWater), which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. A non-profit association, declared to be in the public interest, gathers public and private partners from France and abroad to carry out projects of common interest, IOWater operates in France, Europe and all over the world in 4 main fields:
1. Continuing vocational training in the field of water. IOWater manages, in Limoges and La Souterraine, the main European Water Training Center, which is carrying out its educational activities in France and in many foreign countries. It has just passed the milestone of 100,000 trainees trained in 25 years!
2. Technical and institutional support. In France, Europe and throughout the world, IOWater supports the organization of national, regional or local facilities, the improvement of their organization and practices, both for the small water cycle and, more broadly, for the management of water resources and aquatic environments. IOWater also promotes the management principles of the European Water Framework Directive and participates in many European twinning agreements and projects.
3. Dissemination of water information. IOWater is a specialist in information systems, databases and documentation. It is at the core of the French partnership for the sharing and enhancement of information on water and aquatic ecosystems and on biodiversity.
4. Facilitation of stakeholders’ networks in the water sector: training centers, documentalists, facilitator of local water management, etc. IOWater also takes care of the permanent technical secretariat of the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO).
Eric TARDIEU succeeds to Jean-François DONZIER, who was at the origin of the creation of IOWater in 1992 and whose exceptional commitment for 25 years has allowed the association to develop strongly and gain a high international repute
"I am confident in IOWater strength and in its prospects for development, especially internationally", said Eric Tardieu. "The technical and human expertise of IOWater teams is recognized in France and worldwide. We will continue our mission to better manage water resources, a challenge that is always crucial for our planet and all its inhabitants".
